Houston Rodeo 2007

Shondra and I went to the rodeo for the first time since we've been in Houston - pathetic, I know since we've been here more than a decade. It was a lot of fun, tons of western-gear booths, BBQ sauce on ice cream, huge Turkey legs for consumption, a big carnival, a livestock show with cows and sheep, and chickens being born.

That evening we watched some Barrel Racing, Bronc and Bull riding, a chuck wagon race, and a hilarious event called a calf scramble. For the calf scramble they set 40 kids loose on 20 calves. If a kid can catch and wrestle a calf to the ground and put a halter on it, he/she gets to take it home. It was high comedy - all these kids running around trying to tackle calves at least as big as most of the kids.
After all the rodeo events, Gretchen Wilson performed about an hour long concert. She was great, but the accoustics were pretty lousy in the big stadium. On the way out of Reliant Stadium, you could see the lights from the Rodeo Carnival. I snapped a few pics with my phone:

A pic of the Rodeo Carnival - you can some of the tents and the lights from the rides.

The ferris wheel was really pretty from the top floor of the Reliant Stadium. As usual, a picture from a phone doesn't really do it justice.
